Can we possibly discuss dropping Google as a sponsor for DebConf25, and
discontinuing any use of Google services for any official Debian
purposes and any sort of parternship or association with them?
If Elon Musk acquiring Twitter in 2022 and allowing a few people to be
offended by hearing things they don't like, then surely we should want
no association with a company that has collaborated extensively with the
United States Government (providing service and support to parts of the
US government responsible for deporting immigrants and to other parts
responsible for carrying out drone strikes across the world) as well as
revealing identifying information of users who have been jailed (and
probably worse) by the Chinese government. I am quite certain that the
number of people who don't feel safe because Google is helping to enable
government agents to come kicking down the door or because they are
helping to enable the targeting of US drone-fired missiles aimed at them
is substantially greater than people who don't feel safe because someone
might spout a conspiracy theory about chem trails or mind control by
vaccines.
And after that, there are several other sponsorships and affiliations we
need to rethink.
