Well, the thing you call "blow-up" was the question, whether
Debian as a project should send condolences to the family of
a Debian maintainer who died.  I do not want to discuss this
issue here, but IMHO things like that would fall into belong
the tasks of Debian press because it is a relation between
Debian and outsiders (the family of a DD).  I do not think that
the soc-ctte should deal with issues that belong outsiders.
We do have internal problems that the soc-ctte should act on.

In short: there is no such thing as a normal political system.
