Though this question hit the wrong mailinglist (-user or even -devel would have been more appropriate), the answer is simple: All software in testing (currently etch), unstable (sid) (and usually also stuff in experimental) is compiled in exactly the same way as software in stable (sarge). This is simply because any software in unstable will eventually end up in testing and finally in stable. And it doesn't get recompiled while propagating. cu, sven
