GNU/Linux is a whole operating system. Linux is only a kernel.

Not eliminating a Linux kernel, eliminating the *need* for a Linux
kernel. Many people, such as myself, will continue to run the Debian
system with Linux rather than with the Hurd or a BSD, and will enjoy
doing so.
