Translation: it is easier to defeat John's proposal if a clearly
defined alternative is proposed to be voted upon at the same time.

In any event, I don't think the intent of this amendment was to
deceive John into adopting it.  Anthony just wants to make sure that
all options are on the table when we vote.  Can you argue with that
desire?
