'apt rdepends hplip' shows only a single Recommends: and it does not
seem a likely candidate for installation. Are you using Gnome? Is there
any great complaint from 'apt purge hplip'?

I wonder what is activating hpfax. and why? Pluggong in the printer
starts udev-configure-printer. Is the error line still there without
system-config-printer-udev on the system?
