Bug#939316: cups-browsed: ERROR: Unable to create print queue, ignoring printer.

Package: cups-browsed
Version: 1.24.0-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream
Forwarded: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-filters/issues/148

Dear Debian folks,

Printing fails with cups-browsed 1.25.3, and 1.25.4 with the error
below.

> No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer \"EPSON_WF_2660_Series\", is cups-browsed running?

cups-browsed is indeed not running, and starting it manually with
`--debug` there are errors.

> Tue Sep 3 09:06:54 2019 Could not determine system default printer!
> Tue Sep  3 09:06:54 2019 find_previous_queue() in THREAD 140164762878016
> Tue Sep 3 09:06:54 2019 get-printer-attributes IPP call failed on printer epson_wf_2660_series (implicitclass://EPSON_WF_2660_Series/).
> Tue Sep 3 09:06:54 2019 ERROR: Unable to create print queue, ignoring printer.
> Tue Sep 3 09:06:54 2019 ERROR: Unable to allocate memory.

Please find more details in the upstream issue [1].

I was tempted to set the severity to *grave*, but as version 1.25.3
is in testing already, and there are not more bug reports about this
in the Debian BTS, I assume it does not affect so many people.

Kind regards,

Paul
