Shouldn't that be

as is in the printer-driver-hpijs package?

To be fair, I have no idea how Fax functionality is supposed to work; whether
it does, and if it's still useful at all. :-)

Instead of moving these files around, what would you think about dropping it
entirely?

Fax is a rather old mean of communication, more and more replaced by e-mails with scanned documents attached. For me it is 4 years ago when I had to send a fax the last time.

Perhaps in some countries fax is still more important.

As many HP devices support fax and HP supports their fax function with their software I would not simply drop it, but move the PPD files for fax to the part of HPLIP which contains the fax-supporting software (the /usr/lib/cups/backend/hpfax backend).

By the way, also some of HP's PPDs for Postscript printers can need a part of HPLIP, the /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps filter, but this one is already in the printer-driver-postscript-hp package.

So what I see has to be done is only moving the fax PPDs into the package with the hpfax backend. Otherwise the printer-driver-... binary packages of HPLIP seem to be OK.
