It's always a puzzle when something that was there disappears. Perhaps
the upstream changelog provides a hint with
* Changes from 5.2.7
1) The Canon driver has been significantly overhauled for this
release, and output (and in some cases functionality) may be
significantly different from previous releases. We expect to
perform further work in future releases. Specific changes

Perhaps you could contact upstream to find out what the situation is?
Anyway, I have attached a 5.2.7 PPD which has lines for A3 which you can
copy to your existing PPD; or use it directly. Restart cups. How do you
go on?
