I think 'lpinfo -v' is the command that was wanted.

This is not the correct way to use this command. But we will leave that
on one side for the moment.

So you have a LaserJet 1100 connected to the server (the host) using a
parallel connection.
First you need to bring your installation up-to-date; cups is now at
version 1.7.1-2. Then *on the server*
1. Delete (or move) /var/log/cups/error_log.
2. Enable debug logging with
cupsctl --debug-logging
3. Restart cups with
service cups restart
4. Print a file *from the server* with
lp -d queue_name file_name or
lp file_name (if the 1100 is the default printer)
5. Say whether printing takes place and attach the error_log to the mail
you send to this bug.

avahi-daemon is not required for what you have been asked to do above.
However, in general, I would question the benefit of not having it
installed.
