Apparently its been more than 10 years since you reported this bug 
against cups!

I think this is nowadays solved in a better way using avahi network 
discovery and automatic printers setup. In any case, I don't intend to 
include these hooks, therefore marking this bug as +wontfix. That said, 
I must admit that I find the trick quite smart and I might have used it 
a decade ago!
