I have hit the same problem, as cups has just migrated to testing.  My
error log (/var/log/cups/error_log) says:

E [16/Jun/2013:14:18:49 +0100] Failed to add Avahi entry for Samsung ML-1610 @ erdos: -8
E [16/Jun/2013:14:18:49 +0100] Failed to add Avahi entry for Samsung ML-1610 @ erdos: -8

Oh dear :-(

I have avahi-daemon installed and running:

erdos:~ # /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon status
Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon is running

Any suggestions, as I have no idea what is causing this :-(
