Package: hplip
Version: 2.7.10-5
Severity: normal

1.
The tools | clean cartridges option doesn't seem able to talk to my
printer. I hit the clean cartridges button and then the continue
button on the load plain paper popup. A panel that says "Please Wait
- Cleaning Level 1 Being Performed" comes up, and just sits there.
There's no activity on the printer.

The problem occurs whether run as myself or root.

2. The print test page option did not initially print anything. The
terminal shows
lpr: Photosmart_C3100: unknown printer
error: Print command failed with exit code 256!

When I installed cupsys-bsd the test page did print. It looks as if
hplip is set to work with CUPS. Wouldn't it make more sense to use lp
than lpr?

3. Despite these difficulties, the tool does seem able to communicate
and get my ink levels and other status information.

The printer is a PhotoSmart C3180 All-in-one, connected via USB to a
laptop running CUPS.

Ross,

Could I ask you to upgrade to the current version of hplip (3.10.2) and ensure
you are a member of the lpadmin group.

If you are still having this issue, then please reopen this bug, using the
details from the reportbug(1) tool.

Thanks,
Mark
