Bug#542041: cups: Cups very slow when accessing adminstrative tasks

When accessing administrative tasks (managing jobs, printers), either via the web interface or one of the guis (I tried both the kde and gnome gui), the response is very slow. cups becomes unresponsive for over a minute, while also not allowsing anyone to print in that period.
Below there is a copy-paste from the cups errorlog file. I've put the loglevel on debug, but still the information is rather scarse.
