Package: cupsys
Version: 1.2.7-4etch2
Severity: normal

After installing a plain etch last year (4.0r0) and just now after
upgrading cups to 1.2.7 it was
impossible to print
to a printer connected to /dev/lp0, even so I'm a member of the 'lp'-group:

crw-rw---- 1 root lp 6, 0 2008-01-20 20:01 /dev/lp0

Setting permissions to 666 of /dev/lp0 helped up to the next reboot.

In my case, the problem could be solved setting the group of
usr/lib/cups/backend/parallel to 'lp'
and setting the GID-Bit (chmod 2755 parallel):

-rwxr-sr-x 2 root lp 13K 2007-12-24 22:50 parallel

Thus I'm able to print again, probably up to the next cupsys-update and
hopefully beyond...

This should have been fixed when we dropped the "run as user" mode in
cups in 1.2.12-2. Closing bug. Please let us know if you still have
problems in Lenny.

Thank you!
