There's no mention at all of USB devices here. Or parallel devices. The printer devices should be /dev/usb/lpn. At this point, I think asking on one of the CUPS lists, or a more general list for printing (see linuxprinting.org) might be more helpful--I don't have a USB printer to even check what the messages should look like. A simple workaround for the time being: add it as any other connection type e.g. ipp or socket. Then once added, edit printers.conf to change it to the device name that /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb tells you, and restart cups. Regards, Roger -- .''`.
