Bug#509965: lprng: Remote printing doesn't work
Package: lprng
Version: 3.8.A-1.1
Severity: important
After upgrading this system to amd64 lenny, I find that lprng
will not accept printing requests from other computers even though
I have modified the lpd.perms file to enable this. Local printing
works fine. I find that the same problem exists on another lenny
upgrade using i386 architecture. It doesn't matter whether the
originating machine is running lenny or etch.
Here is a typical result when trying to check the queue:
merlin:~$ lpq -P upstairs
Printer: upstairs@merlin (dest upstairs@gryphon)
Queue: 1 printable job
Server: pid 22815 active
Unspooler: pid 22816 active
Status: sleeping 60 secs before retry, starting sleep at 19:10:26.542
Rank Owner/ID Pr/Class Job Files Size Time
stalled(24109sec) raymond@merlin+812 A 812 /etc/printcap 544 12:29:02
Printer 'upstairs@gryphon' - cannot open connection - Connection refused
Here is the printcap file on gryphon:
# This file was generated by /usr/sbin/magicfilterconfig.
#
lp|upstairs|LaserJet 2300d:\
:lp=/dev/usb/lp0:sd=/var/spool/lpd/upstairs:\
:sh:pw#80:pl#66:px#1440:mx#0:\
:af=/var/log/lp-acct:lf=/var/log/lp-errs:\
:ifhp=model=hp2200:\
:filter=/usr/lib/ifhp/ifhp:\
:mc#50
... (other remote printers omitted)
Am I missing something obvious? I didn't select "print server" on
the task select when installing etch prior to upgrading to lenny.
However, this has never been an issue on etch.
