This is a CUPS problem, rather than a gutenprint problem. The usb backend is definitely picking up the printer, so it should definitely be usable in the web interface. If /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb works, then I'm not sure what's going wrong. You can always use the lpadmin command to add the printer by hand, or even directly edit printers.conf and add the PPD file to /etc/cups/ppd. However, I would suggest asking the CUPS people (there are groups at easysw.com for that) or the Debian CUPS maintainers. Before you do that, though, set LogLevel to debug in cupsd.conf, restart cups, try to add the printer again and then have a look through the log. It might explain what the problem is. One final suggestion: check that the printer device node is being created under /dev. You probably need to use udev to get the usb lp devices. Regards, Roger -- .''`.
