Package: cupsys
Version: 1.1.4-3
When I enter the command "lprm 54", where 54 is the actively printing job,
cups aborts the job and empties it from the queue. Unfortunately, it
also leaves my printer hung in mid-page.
I can manually (via buttons on the printer) force the page out and
reset the printer, but this is to little avail because cups no longer
processes any active jobs (although it does accept them onto the queue.)
The only consistent way I've found to regain a working cups/printer
system is to reboot.
I would think that if lprm is issued for the current active job,
it should gracefully abort the printing by flushing out the last page
and readying the printer for the next job.

My printer is an HP DeskJet 855C running from the serial port (ttyS1)
of my PowerPC Mac 7200/90.
