Package: cupsys
Version: 1.2.1-2
Severity: normal

Printing to a local queue with

lpr -P <printer> -oraw <file>

works fine, but when <printer> is a printer discovered by browsing,
cupsd sends a lot of network traffic for several minutes, and then
cupsd dies. From the log, it looks like it used up all available file
descriptors; netstat shows many IPP connections, mostly TIME_WAIT.
It looks like it tried sending the job many many times over; I think
this is only the final few tens of retries.

I've attached the error log.

This is also upstream STR #1786.

Regards.
Roger

Although I can't test this currently (I lack a networked CUPS setup),
my test of Mike's patch

  http://www.cups.org/str.php?L1786

was successful, and this was merged in CUPS 1.2.2. As a result, it
should be fixed, so I'll close the bug.
