Package: cupsys
Version: 1.1.4-3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Being able to print to printers shared-out by an NT server is really neat.
The way CUPSys handles the URI -- more specificly the user:password in the
URI -- is somewhat skew IMHO. The printer definition is shared by all
users on the Debian system, yet the URI is user-specific. In a mixed Linux/NT
network this makes a consistent printer configuration difficult.

Would it be possible to have a well protected file in $HOME containing sets of
workgroup:user:password, and leave printers.conf free of this sensitive
information? In case the file does not exist, the user should be prompted...

Something like this would be greatly appreciated :)

Bastiaan.

As per decision of the Debian CUPS maintenance team, we are hereby
closing bugs concerning release 1.1.4, as they are dating back from
over 6 years ago.

Since then, CUPS has evolved into 1.1.23 (present in Debian 3.1 Sarge)
and 1.2.x generations (present since Debian 4.0 Etch), so we feel that
the issue reported simply cannot be addressed anymore.

Feel free to reopen this bug if you feel that it was closed in error
and explain why.
