Bug#432454: hpijs: NEWS.Debian is vague regarding "Modify printer" command
Package: hpijs
Version: 2.6.10+1.6.10-4.1
Severity: normal
My HP920c printer doesn't work after upgrading. I try the NEWS.Debian advice, again,
as I have many times before:
% zgrep "reinstall the printer" /usr/share/doc/hpijs/NEWS.Debian.gz -m 1 -A 4
Note: to update a PPD, you have to reinstall the printer or use the
"modify printer" command in a CUPS administrative interface. See
Debian bug report #333746 for more information.

So as root I run 'gnome-cups-manager', but can't find any
"modify printer" command. It's probably in some other CUPS front-end
program, but I've forgotten which.
It would be better if the above instructions gave the program by name,
(as can be invoked from the command line, so that users needn't
hunt through their menus), as well as what package has the program in
question in case it's not currently installed. If there's more than
one package/program, then those others should also be named.
Example:
Debian Package name foob
Command line name /bin/usr/fooblive
Menu name: Applications>Setup>Foobar 2000 Turbo!
fooblive submenu: Edit>Setup>Admin>modify printer
(Seems like this sort of info ought to be standardized. Sort of like
a URL or URI standard for program functions. People forget stuff like this
all the time.)
HTH...
