Package: gs-gpl
Version: 8.15-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

"gs -sDEVICE=x11 -dTextAlphaBits=4" seems to display some font sizes
incorrectly. Characters are far too large. For a demonstration, please
have a look at:

    http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/josuomel/tmp/gs-bug/

The problem disappears if I disable platform fonts (-dNOPLATFONTS) or
if I remove the TextAlphaBits setting. It seems to affect at least
some normal fonts like Helvetica or Courier in certain small point
sizes.

I have no idea if these settings make any sense at all. However, this
seems to be what kghostview is using by default. As a workaround, one
may disable platform fonts in kghostview settings.

My installation is an up-to-date debian unstable. I don't think I have
done anything strange with my X installation or fonts, but please feel
free to ask for more information if you need.

I noticed this problem a couple of days ago. For some reason I have
not seen this earlier; it might be related to some recent update.

Best regards,
Jukka Suomela
