Sid: Problems with HP-Toolbox and xsane

Good evening. I read that user printing problems are on-topic, so here
I am. I hope printing includes scanning, if not please direct me to
the correct forum.

Up-to-date Sid.

I have an HP all in one PSC2210, which works great with CUPS. I was
very happy when the HP Toolbox showed up in Sid last summer, and very
much enjoyed using it as a front-end to xsane.

However, when I had to play with the printer setting in CUPS, I
redefined the printer. Now when xsane starts up, it displays a choice
of two different printers, the first of which vanishes when the
printer is not plugged in and turned on:

Hewlett-Pac PSC 2200 Series multi-function peri
[hpoj:mlc:usb:PSC_2200_Series]

hp PSC_2200_Series multi-function peri
[hpaio:/usb/PSC_2200_Series?serial=MY26blablabla]

I simply select the first, and xsane works fine.

However, I think the HP-Toolbox front-end is trying the second printer
definition and failing, meaning that although xsane works the
HP-Toolbox front end fails when it finds two instead of one printer
defined.

Playing with it again today, I tried redefining the printer in the
HP-Toolbox, and now there are TWO of the second entries, and the
Toolbox still cannot pass the "which one" question without erroring
out. I think it's trying the second (now third) entry first, and
finding it's not there. Or maybe HP-Toolbox just cannot deal with
more than one definition.

Can someone tell me where these entries are located? None of the docs
for sane/xsane give a hint, the files in ~/.sane/ and .hplip.conf
have no individual printer entries just options for application
display.

I think all I have to do is delete the two static entries that begin
with "hapio". Any ideas?
