Hmm, yes I see the problem now.
So either lprng has to orphan the spool directory, in other words
it will be there if you purge lprng and do not install anything or
we get your problem described in this bug report.
I can't see a way of lprng postinst saying 'oh lpr is being installed'
and not deleting the directory.
