Bug#387201: can't print on Brother HL01435 with any version of cupsys newer than 1.2.1-2

I have been able to print on a Brother HL-1435 for years with any
version of CUPS using 'Brother HL-1440 Foomatic/hl1250', but after
version 1.2.1-2 (the latest that works) I can't use it anymore; every
time I print I get this printed (instead of the document I try to print):
