It is available in CVS already. It was not uploaded because I don't have

Don't worry. Even if 1.6.9 or 1.6.10 is not released with Etch, we will
provide Etch backports (this is the only real way to deal with drivers like
HPLIP that need constant updates to keep up with new hardware).
