Got HP Laserjet 1000 working with Cups 1.2.1-3

When Cups was upgraded to 1.2 my HP Laserjet 1000, a USB printer, would not print.  An inkjet connected to the parallel port was OK.

I followed the advice below re HPLIP 1.6.6 and with some considerable effort my system is working again.

I can also print across the LAN from windows machines to the Linux LJ 1000.
