If you are already using the cupsys-driver-gutenprint driver, it will
automatically upgrade the PPD under /etc/cups/ppd to the new version.

It won't touch Foomatic PPDs. There was a bug some time ago where it
would upgrade Gutenprint/Foomatic PPDs, but that's been fixed for some
time; that's why the version you upgraded from is important to know.

Please could you mail me a copy of the PPD from
/etc/cups/ppd/<queuename>

And also your /etc/cups/printers.conf.

If you use the Foomatic driver (ijsgutenprint) , there is no means of
automated upgrading; it is up to you to do it by hand whenever the
driver is upgraded. For this reason alone, I would recommend using
cupsys-driver-gutenprint.

Isn't this a native PostScript printer? If so, just use the PPD on
the install CD, or download it.

You don't need Gutenprint or Foomatic in this case.

You shouldn't have to reconfigure all your printers. But if you use
Foomatic, the responsibility of keeping up-to-date is with you; you
should only need it if you use LPRng or some obscure Ghostscript
driver. In your case, there are better options available.

Partly. You haven't actually given me any real details of the
configuration that I can look at. Without them, I can't really do
very much.
