Check with ps auxwww if any of the HP daemons are still running after you
/etc/init.d/hplip stop.
If they are, note if they have been started *before* your upgrade. If they
were, report back (and kill them then command /etc/init.d/hplip restart to
get your printing back to working order).
Otherwise, look in syslog and tell me what hpssd is complaining about.
