failure to print

HP Deskjet 5740 installed CUPS 1.1 with HP drivers.
Printer: idle/accepting
Filters: Encript Text Filter and PDF Writer

Test page successfully sent to printer. However, catastrophe:

A print error occurred. Error message received from system:
cupsdoprint -P 'HP_Deskjet_5740' -J 'KDE Print Test' -H 'localhost:631' -o ' 
multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-uncollated-copies 
orientation-requested=3' '/usr/share/apps/kdeprint/testprint.ps' : execution 
failed with message:
server-error-not-accepting-jobs

I never succeeded printing with the HP recommended driver

I always had to go to ESP HP Deskjet Series to get test page printing, whereby 
also openoffice and adobe writer printed. In contrast, neither kprint nor 
kpdf printed: both reported MIME not supported and converting file did not  
succeed.
