Check out cups-genppdupdate in cupsys-driver-gutenprint. This is used
to merge current settings with a new PPD file. While this
implementation is a horrible hack in perl, and is Gutenprint-specific,
I would like to see a generic implementation which is more widely
useful.

If you use cupsys-driver-gutenprint, you might have noticed that the
PPDs get upgraded automatically. This should be possible for other
drivers as well. Feel free to reuse the code; it's GPL.

Roger
