Bug#343285: cupsys service does not start anymore; it exits with 98 error code

The cupsys package does not start any more. Whenever I try
/etc/init.d/cupsys start
I get the following error msg:
Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsdcupsd: Child exited with
status 98!
