Some work has been done on this bug:

and I believe the results are now in CVS. Is it possible to incorporate
the changes into the debian package in unstable? Or perhaps take a new CVS
snapshot?

I guess this bug should maybe be marked 'upstream' now? I'm not sure of
etiquette- is it ok for me (as a bug reporter) to set tags?
