I can confirm this. Thanks, Martin, for the tip!

In any case, even with gs-esp, the page renders horribly in
ghostview. It's huge and goes way off the screen, and I can't seem
to convince ghostview to scroll to see the actual content.

I have to use ps2pdf and xpdf to actually read the file. Any clues?
