What would be the benefit? Isn't it the other way round, that Power8 and
newer support LE because of software availability? Most packages are
increasingly only tested on LE and stop to work on BE, which is the main
problem on Power prior to the Power8.

Just my 2¢.

On a Power8 or Power9, if you really care, try Gentoo and compile the
stuff oprimized for your system. You will see how much is optimized and
how much is indeed not.

I'd be glad if stuff gets fixed for BE, which may also then be fixed for
earlier systems like the Power4 or the PPC970 (which is the only BE
system I personally own, a Power Mac G5).

Likewise, more and more software doesn't run on 32-Bit systems. I still
have some nice looking 32-Bit-Macs, and I find it sad to see that the
support of newer software tends to be only 64-Bit AND Little Endian.
