That doesn't been it uses LLVM/Clang for building though. LLVM can be used for all kinds
of things.

Anyway, I will have a look later this week. I'm currently swamped in work. Help is therefore
appreciated.

There are PowerPC porterboxes both within Debian (perotto) and in the GCC compile farm (gcc203)
which can be used for debugging this.
