So, not all Lombards have OpenFirmware, just starting from the Bronze Keyboard model. And if the machine has OpenFirmware, GRUB should work.

I believe that "Bronze Keyboard PowerBook"  is just another designation for Lombard; i.e. all Lombards are "Bronze Keyboard PowerBooks".  So not only do all Lombards have Open Firmware, but they are all New World.  Wallstreets and G3 Desktops also have Open Firmware, but an older version, and they are Old World.
