Linux 4.17.x - boot problem on p5 520Q

Hi,

during testing an on-disk installation of Sid on my p5 520Q I noticed a problem that prevents the installed OS from finishing booting. I suspect the `ipr` module (which handles the built-in IBM SCSI (RAID) controller, the internal disks are attached to) or at least that it is part of this problem.

Later testing showed that this also affects network booting, but there in can be worked around by blacklisting the `ipr` module with `modprobe.blacklist=ipr` in the kernel command line. Without this blacklisting the boot process cannot finish just like for a boot from disk.

Interestingly I can load the `ipr` module **after** the OS has finished loading without an issue (UPDATE: at least up until `linux-image-4.17.0-2-powerpc64`) .

I first saw the problem when trying to boot from disk with `linux-image-4.17.0-1-powerpc64` for ppc64 installed as kernel.

I'm currently trying to narrow down since when this happens:

So far `linux-image-4.17.0-rc3-powerpc64` doesn't show this problem. I'll therefore retry with a later `[...]-4.17.0-rc[...]` - if I can find one on snapshots.d.o. Using `linux-image-4.18.0-rc3-powerpc64` also shows the problem. And as I just found out with this kernel also the loading of the `ipr` module - after the boot process has finished - triggers the problem.

****

My question now is, to which `linux-image[...]` package version should I actually file the bug report?

Cheers,
Frank
