Jessie boot appears to hang on Pegasos 2 G4 after "returning from prom_init"

Hello,

I'm the proud owner of a Genesi Pegasos 2 G4 system.  I previously had Debian 7 (Wheezy) installed on the system.  It worked perfectly, including XWindows, etc.

I decided to upgrade the system from Debian 7 to Debian 8 this weekend via apt-get dist-upgrade (with requisite repo changes, etc).

The upgrade process itself took a while, but did complete without errors.

Upon reboot however, the system appears to hang right after startup.  I've transcribed this from a photo I took of the screen:

I've tried both with and without the video=radeonfb:off kernel boot option, but the result is the same.
I'd really like to keep my Pegasos running and would appreciate it if anybody has tips to address.

Not sure if it matters, but my system has a ATI Radeon 9200 series card (I believe it's designation RV280).
