No changes were made to the CD generation process in this regard.

Before we go start digging into the sources, please make sure your
CD-ROM drive is working properly and the CD you burnt is ok.

Please note that tools like unetbootin create broken installation
media in case you used something like that. I also have an iBook G4
which I installed with an earlier Debian PowerPC sid installation
image just fine, there were zero problems - except for the background
color inverted during installation.

It does work. If I find the time, I will perform a fresh installation
on my iBook G4 to verify.

You can, but it's not trivial and requires a local mirror:

Please note, for "powerpc" you need to use the normal FTP servers, not
Debian Ports.
