Please always provide your actual hardware configuration by sending the output of "dmesg"
and "lspci".

If by "black screen" you mean the screen actually turns off (your description
is very vague), then you are most likely running into this problem:

This affects nVidia hardware on PowerPC machines.

Try upgrading your machine to Debian sid and see if that improves anything.
