Newbie, iMac G3 600MHz 1GB Ram, black screen

Hello

Source: debian-8.5.0-powerpc-netinst.iso
Using entire 40GB HD for the install.

I tried to install only the utilities and i go as far as a single user prompt.

If I install any of the GUIs the computer goes as far as a black screen.

At the boot prompt is there something I can enter to edit a file? Perhaps a cone file for the GPU. I am not sure how to work around the black screen.

I am sorry for such a basic question but I honestly can’t get around this issue and have searched the ubuntu and Debian site for an answer but the closest I can find is some kind of instructions for modifying the horizontal and vertical refresh which I have done while inside the installer, after choosing a shell to config a file with nano but after having done so, I get the lower 1/3 of the screen with glitches looking graphics and the remaining 2/3 solid black.

Would greatly appreciate a solid answer.

Kindest regards and thanks in advance.
