Hi all -- I've just installed lenny on a 12" PowerBook G4 from the 5.0.4 netinst CD. (Yeah, I know that 5.0.5 is out. I downloaded and burned the CD a couple of months ago, and just got around to installing it today. I like netinst because it lets me get away with procrastinating like that.) The installation and initial boot went just fine, but X11 segfaults on startup. I tried regenerating xorg.conf with "dpkg --reconfigure xorg-xserver" and get the same result. Here is the stdout+stderr of running X: """ X.Org X Server 1.4.2 Release Date: 11 June 2008 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux Debian (xorg-server 2:1.4.2-10.lenny2) Current Operating System: Linux kelpie 2.6.26-2-powerpc #1 Mon Jun 21 05:44:37 UTC 2010 ppc Build Date: 11 June 2009 09:52:37AM Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. But I thought a bug report untainted by workaorund attempts would be useful. Oh yeah, here is the output of lspci: """ 0000:00:0b.0 Host bridge: Apple Computer Inc. Ideas that occur to me include: * rebuild xorg-xserver from source to get a better stack trace * upgrade to squeeze and see if the problem goes away * try another distro that has some support for PPC (Arch or Ubuntu most likely) Thanks for any ideas or suggestions -- Greg
