What do you two mean with vanilla kernel? I'm used to that people refer
to unpatched kernels - and usually the versions from kernel.org and
*not* the Debian kernels. So if you mean that with vanilla kernel I
would ask you to give the mentioned kernel image from unstable a try.

Well, it doesn't work on the virtual console neither. With 2.6.28 I am
able to type along on the console before gdm fires up. Any keypresses
with the 2.6.29 don't work at all. Maybe it's even related to
pbbuttonsd, I have no idea. I just know that it works with booting up
with 2.6.28 and not with booting up with 2.6.29 - no other changes
involved.

But wouldn't that also cause the same problems with the 2.6.28 kernel
images, then? My point being is that there has to be some relevant
changes between 2.6.28 and 2.6.29 that caused this issue because no
other part of the system gets changed between the reboots - I either
boot up with the "Linux" or "old" keywords from the boot prompt.

Thanks for your responses, at least it shows that the severity lowering
seems to be justified, even though maks doesn't have any powerpc system.

Any other ideas or hints on what to check are well appreciated.
