Bob,It's alright to be new. I was there once, and still feel that way sometimes. One wag on IRC said that linux on powerpc was a continuous intelligence test.
to see the contents of a file displayed in the console, use `cat', `more', `less', or (much less common) `most'. Hence, what was meant was,
root@localhost # cat /proc/fb and report hte contents of the file to the list here. PeterPS. If you accidentally cat a binary file, it might contain codes that the terminal will interpret as commands. Run the `reset' command to recover.

Sorry, I'm pretty new to linux, I don't know what 'using OFfb rather than aty128fb' means. I tried inputting /proc/fb as root and got '-bash: /proc/fb: permission denied'. I don't know how to fix this. If I comment out the 'UseFBDev' line then I get the exact same error message. If I set the option to false rather than true then I get the attached error message. I also tried using Amit's xorg.conf, but got the same error message. At this point I don't think the problem is related to the xorg.conf file. Thanks, /Bob
