m3mirror on old *books and recent kernels

Hi,

I'm looking for help on how to enable the external vga mirror output on
on my powerbook pismo with m3mirror. To have it working with kernel up
to 2.6.14 I had to do an ugly hack in prom_init.c. After I switched to
2.6.18 and later on to 2.6.20, I could no longer find the place to do
the hack, and all I have on the external VGA output is some magic
OpenFirmware diagnostic message. I believe what I'm looking for is
somewhere in
prom_check_displays();
in the older kernels I had to make Linux loop over exactly two
screens rather than letting it detect them, but now when this behaviour
has changed, I have no idea what to do with it since I'm no kernel
programmer. I have my handy 2.6.14 always ready to boot, but still I
need a newer kernel.

Any suggestions are welcome :)

thanks,

owczi
