Some Airport Extreme chipsets are not fully supported now according to the 
bcm43xx driver webpage (http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/?go=devices).

The one I have (BCM4306) works with linux-2.6.18 in my Ibook G4. I didn't 
manage it to work using the firmware-cutter utility, I had to download the 
firmware to make it work

However, the BCM4318 has still 'transmission power issues' so it may not 
properly work.

It is possible that your card has the BCM4318 chip id. Execute: "lspci | grep 
BCM" (without the quotes) to find out your wifi card Chip ID.

You can also try another firmware version. The one I am using in Debian Etch 
can be downloaded here: 
http://au.ubuntu.cafuego.net/pool/edgy-cafuego/bcm43xx/bcm43xx-firmware_1.3-1ubuntu2_all.deb
