I don't know which PREEMPT option you mean .. I have this:

$ zgrep -i preempt /proc/config.gz
# CONFIG_PREEMPT_NONE is not set
CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY=y
# CONFIG_PREEMPT is not set

$ uname -a
Linux debby1-6 2.6.18-rc4-060811-dirty #1 Fri Aug 11 00:16:22 CEST 2006 ppc GNU/Linux

I use the kernel above since quite some time.

I had problems some time ago, after changing hdparm.conf, when booting
the system: "lost interrupt" errors, IIRC, for the hard disk ... I
reinstalled my old hdparm.conf, and everything seems to be back on
track again ...

So except that KDE/KDM is very slow in some situations, some minor
issues, and the usual casual problems (tho happening rarely here) if
one runs unstable, everything seems to be fine with this kernel
being installed ..

HTH

Wolfgang
