I never saw anything past 2.6.8-3, i was doing updates
every week or two since early this year.

yes or no, would 2.6.15 let me upgrade the rest of
etch
(possible i put hold on kernel package) ?? wasn't
there something with 2.6.11 and above ?? (udev ?), ie
